Asher was purchased for $10 in 1989 in front of a grocery store in Detroit, Michigan by an ex-relative. The people who sold him called him a "golden shar pei". He had the rough horsehair coat. He was stubborn and independent, hated water, ignored other dogs and people while on our many walks, and was content to guard the house lying on the bed looking out the window. I met him when he was 1 yr. old. After a divorce he lived with my parents from 1995-2002 then he came to live with me. He slowly started to go deaf at the age of 12 but other than that and arthritis, he didn't really have any significant health problems, just old age. The last few months of his life, I took him for acupuncture to help make him more comfortable. Eventually, medication and that didn't make him feel any better and it was time to relieve his pains. It was a very hard decision to make. It's been a year and I still miss him terribly.
